Welcome to Black Remington Press
Welcome! I’m Kanin, a queer artist from St. Louis, and I specialize in book binding and watercolor and gouache painting. I also love drawing, printmaking, and flower pressing. I attended Kansas City Art Institute between August 2020 and May 2021. While pursuing a degree in Printmaking at the height of Covid, I developed some severe health issues that forced me to move home before completing my degree. I took some time off to evaluate my options and bounced around a few different jobs that would accept a college dropout with not much more than entry level experience. It’s been a little over 4 years since, and some new developments in my health forced me to quit my most recent job and again evaluate what I could do to balance my health-enforced restrictions and needing to pay my bills. In short it seemed like as good a time as any to take the plunge into a 5+ year dream, and explore my art while building a community that can explore together, and build each other up in ideas and innovation.
I love finding ways to integrate all my interests together to create gorgeous books and cute accessories. Of course this wouldn’t be a complete artist website if you couldn’t also buy your favorite designs as art prints or even *gasp* coloring pages! Ultimately I would love to release a myriad of collections that include everything you might need for journaling, reading, decorating, letter writing, studying, or just hoarding all your favorite artists’ work!
Currently you can find me at my desk at home drawing and painting away the hours. I’ve been nurturing my creativity and exploration in my artistic practice while I finish setting up my studio. I have a couple of projects lined up that I am excited to share, and I plan to take you along for the journey!
